On December 5, 2025, Georgetown American University (GAU) held a graduation ceremony that will be remembered as a defining milestone in our institutional journey—one marked by excellence, perseverance, and purpose.
This year’s ceremony celebrated the largest cohort of graduates in GAU’s history, with 93 healthcare professionals crossing the stage and stepping boldly into lives of service:
29 Medical Doctors
44 Registered Nursing Assistants
6 Registered Nurses
14 Patient Care Assistants
Beyond the numbers, this ceremony carried special meaning: it honored GAU’s first graduating batch of nurses, a hallmark achievement that signals the continued growth and impact of our health sciences programs.
A milestone grounded in resilience and purpose
Graduation is not only an ending, it is a commissioning. Each graduate represents countless hours of study, clinical practice, sacrifice, and discipline. Families and supporters shared in the emotional weight of the moment, celebrating what it took to reach the finish line and what it will take to lead beyond it.
In her charge to graduates, Dr. Melissa Varswyk emphasized a theme that resonated throughout the ceremony: challenges are not deterrents, they are evidence of momentum.
She reminded graduates that:
“What many people call ‘obstacles,’ you have learned to call stepping stones… those were not setbacks. They were confirmations, proof that you were moving, growing, and advancing.”
And in a powerful line that drew deep reflection across the room, she declared:
“If life ever stops challenging you, be concerned. It means you have stopped moving. Only doers face challenges.”
Her charge was clear: graduates must not fear pressure, complexity, or uncertainty. Instead, they must see adversity as a signal that growth and greatness are unfolding:
“Every challenge in your life is a sign that something great is trying to emerge through you.”
“A challenge is not a wall. It is a door.”
The Dean’s call: be lifelong learners
The ceremony also highlighted the importance of continued growth beyond graduation. The Dean of Academic Affairs encouraged all graduates to become lifelong learners, reminding them that healthcare demands humility, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
In a rapidly changing world, where clinical guidelines evolve, new evidence emerges, and technology reshapes healthcare delivery, this message underscored a core GAU value: learning does not stop at graduation; it deepens with responsibility.
A celebration of firsts and a future of impact
This graduation was historic not only because of its record size, but because it demonstrated what is possible when students commit to excellence and institutions commit to opportunity.
For GAU, the graduation of our first cohort of nurses represents a major advancement in fulfilling our mission: developing healthcare professionals equipped for real-world service, regional impact, and global standards.
For our graduates, the day was both personal and professional, celebrating identity, achievement, and the start of a new chapter defined by responsibility to patients, communities, and the future of healthcare.
As the ceremony concluded, graduates were reminded:
“As you go forward: Embrace every challenge. Expect challenges. And when challenges appear, smile—because it means you are on the path of growth, purpose, and destiny.”
To the Graduates: congratulations and welcome to the calling
To the 29 Medical Doctors, 44 Registered Nursing Assistants, 6 Registered Nurses, and 14 Patient Care Assistants, GAU celebrates you.
You have earned more than a credential. You have earned the right to serve, to lead, and to heal. Your community needs your competence. Your patients will depend on your integrity. Your profession will require your courage.
This was a graduation ceremony but it was also a declaration:
GAU is producing healthcare professionals ready to rise.
Congratulations, Class of December 5, 2025. Your journey continues—now with purpose, preparation, and power.
