Preparing for GAU Illuminate – Staff Training on AI
Preparing people to work confidently with artificial intelligence is an important part of Georgetown American University’s vision for GAU Illuminate.
In a September 2025 staff communication, GAU introduced Illuminate as a digital platform in development, intended to bring together academic and administrative functions while supporting the student learning experience.
Understanding the platform’s purpose
The communication outlined a planned central system for academics, student services, research and administration. Its purpose was to connect university information and workflows and introduce AI tools that could support teaching, learning and everyday operations.
Building AI knowledge across the university
Staff were encouraged to become familiar with AI technologies in preparation for the new system. The message highlighted professional development as an essential part of making the transition effective for the whole university community.
As a starting point, colleagues were directed to Google’s Machine Learning Crash Course, an online resource for learning machine-learning concepts through lessons and practical exercises.
Preparation through professional learning
The message invited staff to strengthen their digital skills and take an active role in GAU’s development. Its emphasis on participation and readiness forms part of the background to the university’s continuing work on Illuminate.
